Heartbreak in Ikoyi: Man Rents Luxury Apartment for Facebook Lover—She Moves in with Her Real Boyfriend
In a tale that sounds like a scene from a Nollywood drama, a Nigerian man has been left emotionally shattered and millions of naira poorer after a shocking betrayal by a woman he met on Facebook.
According to a viral post shared by @SirDavidBent on X (formerly Twitter), the man had recently started dating the woman online and, eager to impress her, went above and beyond to show his commitment. As a grand gesture, he secured a luxury apartment for her in Ikoyi—one of Lagos’s most expensive neighborhoods.
Not only did he pay two years' rent in advance, but he also fully furnished the apartment to suit her taste, sparing no expense in making it comfortable and stylish.
But his romantic gesture took a cruel turn.
Shortly after the woman moved into the apartment, the man discovered that her so-called “brother,” whom she had introduced casually, was in fact her real boyfriend—and the two were now living together in the home he paid for.
To make matters worse, the woman reportedly continued to collect money from him, even while enjoying the luxury of the Ikoyi apartment with her true partner.
“I know someone who rented an apartment in Ikoyi, furnished it & paid two years’ rent in advance for a lady he recently met on Facebook,” the viral post revealed. “She moved in with her boyfriend. She introduced him as her brother.”
The story has sparked widespread reactions online, with many expressing sympathy for the man while others issued warnings about trusting too quickly in online relationships.
In an age where love is just a click away, this story serves as a painful reminder that not everything—or everyone—is as they appear online.
