UPDATE ON VERY DARK MAN'S ARREST

 A

warrant for VDM’s arrest was issued by the court on the morning of Wednesday, April 30th. It’s important to clarify that Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) had no involvement in this matter. Authorities were initially prepared to arrest him on Thursday, but their plans were delayed due to the public holiday.

By Friday, law enforcement was still strategizing his apprehension, unsure of his location. Interestingly, VDM himself publicly announced his intention to visit a GTB branch on Thursday. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) then deployed teams to three major GTB branches, anticipating that he would choose a high-traffic location to create social media content. Their strategy proved successful when he appeared at one of the branches under surveillance.

The key takeaway is this: GTB played no role in VDM’s arrest. If anyone is considering closing their GTB accounts, they should do so for personal reasons, not because of misinformation linking the bank to this incident.

While the EFCC may not be entirely transparent in its actions, it’s evident that VDM’s bold public claims—especially his assertion of having informants within the EFCC—may have provoked a swift response from the agency. Had he truly had insiders, they would have warned him about the impending arrest.

Rather than stirring public unrest or spreading misleading narratives targeting GTB, VDM’s legal team—alongside supporters like Its KokoPee—should focus on de-escalating tensions and building a strong legal defense. With his accounts likely to be frozen today, they may even need to consider representing him pro bono.

Let’s be clear: this is not a celebration of VDM’s downfall, nor a wish for his misfortune. No one encouraged him to deviate from his philanthropic efforts or to seek attention through controversy. Other public figures like Mercy Chinwo and Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin continue to serve their communities without stirring trouble. Perhaps it’s time for VDM to return to his charitable roots—resuming giveaways and settling debts—instead of getting entangled in avoidable conflict.
