Nollywood powerhouse Funke Akindele has addressed her unexpected absence from the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA) 2025, leaving fans both touched and understanding.

In a heartfelt message shared on her official platforms, the award-winning actress and filmmaker revealed that she had every intention of attending the prestigious event but had to make a difficult decision due to a deeply personal family matter.

“I know many people were expecting to see me at the AMVCA this year. Trust me, I wanted to be there too… But sometimes, life has a way of stepping in and changing your plans, even when your heart is fully set on something,” she wrote.

Funke explained that family came first in this moment, a choice that wasn't easy, especially considering her deep love for the industry and her loyal fan base.

“As much as I love my craft and my fans, family will always come first… I may not have been on the red carpet this time, but I felt your love deeply,” she added.

She also extended her congratulations to all the nominees, winners, and attendees, praising their talent and dedication to the Nigerian film industry.

Her message has since been met with an outpouring of support from fans, colleagues, and industry stakeholders, many of whom praised her honesty, vulnerability, and unwavering commitment to both her career and her personal values.

With grace and gratitude, Funke signed off:

“I’ll be back, stronger and better, by God’s grace.”
