UNIZIK Student Tragically Dies After Jumping from Three-Storey Building in Suspected Drug Incident

A tragic incident has rocked the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) community in Awka, Anambra State, following the death of a male student who jumped from a three-storey building near campus.

The heartbreaking event occurred on the evening of Thursday, June 5, at an off-campus lodge located close to the university. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud thud and rushing to the scene, only to find the student lying unconscious in a pool of blood. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but was unfortunately confirmed dead upon arrival.

According to reports, the student had allegedly consumed a psychoactive substance locally known as "Colos" shortly before the incident. Sources within the lodge claim the substance was given to him by another student residing in the same building.

A disturbing video shared online shows fellow residents confronting the individual who allegedly provided the substance. They accused him of failing to intervene as the victim showed signs of distress. The individual appeared to be under the influence himself and was reportedly incoherent during the confrontation.

As of now, the alleged supplier is in police custody and will face further questioning once he is deemed medically stable.

This tragic event has sparked fresh conversations around drug abuse, mental health, and campus safety. It also underscores the urgent need for increased awareness, peer support systems, and tighter control over harmful substances among young adults in educational institutions.

Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and fellow students mourning this devastating loss.
