It was horrible,” he added, visibly shaken by the memory. The EndSARS movement, which began as a call to end police violence and impunity, swept through Nigeria and gained global attention. While it was largely peaceful, certain pockets of violence...

Image
In a world where success stories often begin with privilege, Gbemisola Taiwo’s journey is a refreshing and deeply inspiring reminder that grit, resilience, and faith can carry you through life’s most crushing disappointments. During her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year in Nigeria, Taiwo made a life-changing decision: she would save every single naira of her monthly allowance to pursue her dream of studying for a master’s degree in the United States. With laser focus, she went beyond just saving her allowance. She also set aside ₦200 monthly from her meager salary to ensure she reached her goal. By the end of the service year, she had saved ₦20,000 — a modest sum to some, but a massive accomplishment for her at the time. That money was carefully used to pay for graduate school application fees, transcripts, and other necessary documents. She poured her heart into the process, certain that her discipline and sacrifice would be rewarded. But when the time came to attend her visa i...

Not only did he pay two years' rent in advance, but he also fully furnished the apartment to suit her taste, sparing no expense in making it comfortable and stylish. But his romantic gesture took a cruel turn. Shortly after the woman moved into the apartment, the man discovered that her so-called “brother,” whom she had introduced casually, was in fact her real boyfriend—and the two were now living together in the home he paid for. To make matters worse, the woman reportedly conti...

PRESS RELEASE: Urgent Reminder: Medical Facilities Must Comply with the Gunshot Act 2017

Image
The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has expressed deep concern over the rising number of deaths caused by hospitals refusing to treat gunshot victims who do not present a police report. This is a direct violation of the Gunshot Act 2017, which clearly mandates that all medical facilities in Nigeria—public or private—must provide immediate and adequate treatment to gunshot victims, with or without police clearance. The Act states: 1. Every hospital must accept and treat gunshot victims promptly, regardless of police involvement. 2. All individuals, including security agents, must assist victims in getting to the nearest hospital for emergency care. The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, is calling on all healthcare professionals to adhere strictly to this law. Immediate care can mean the difference between life and death, and refusal to treat is not only unethical but illegal. To support compliance, the Ministry is putting meas...

Shoe Thrown at Kenya’s President Ruto During Rally Amid Cost of Living Protests

Image
Kenya’s President William Ruto was struck by a thrown shoe during a rally in Migori County on Sunday, May 4th, while addressing the nation’s growing concerns over the rising cost of living. The protest, captured in viral videos circulating online, showed Ruto deflecting the shoe with his arm and continuing his speech unshaken. The incident occurred as Ruto spoke about efforts to reduce fertilizer prices, asking the crowd, “We have said we are reducing the price of fertiliser, true or false?” just as the shoe bounced off him, kicking up a small cloud of dust. Public frustration has intensified in recent months over rising taxes and economic hardship. While Ruto has rolled back some proposed tax measures and even included opposition figures in his cabinet as a gesture of unity, these moves have done little to quell public anger. In response to the disruption, Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed that three individuals had been arrested, according to reports from The Star n...

UPDATE ON VERY DARK MAN'S ARREST

Image
A warrant for VDM’s arrest was issued by the court on the morning of Wednesday, April 30th. It’s important to clarify that Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) had no involvement in this matter. Authorities were initially prepared to arrest him on Thursday, but their plans were delayed due to the public holiday. By Friday, law enforcement was still strategizing his apprehension, unsure of his location. Interestingly, VDM himself publicly announced his intention to visit a GTB branch on Thursday. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) then deployed teams to three major GTB branches, anticipating that he would choose a high-traffic location to create social media content. Their strategy proved successful when he appeared at one of the branches under surveillance. The key takeaway is this: GTB played no role in VDM’s arrest. If anyone is considering closing their GTB accounts, they should do so for personal reasons, not because of misinformation linking the bank to this incident. W...

BREAKING NEWS: Meta Threatens to Shut Down Facebook and Instagram in Nigeria Over $290M Fines

Image
Tech giant Meta Platforms Inc. has issued a warning that it may shut access to Facebook and Instagram in Nigeria, citing over $290 million in fines and what it describes as "unrealistic" regulatory demands from Nigerian authorities. The warning comes after the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission accused Meta and WhatsApp of multiple violations, including unauthorized data sharing, abuse of market dominance, and failure to respect consumer data rights. Meta claims that the mounting fines and enforcement actions are creating an environment that is "unsustainable" for its operations in the country. However, critics argue that Meta’s threat to exit Nigeria mirrors a strategic move to pressure regulators into backing down—especially as the company has complied with similar rulings in Europe, the U.S., South Korea, and India without resorting to exit threats. The FCCPC has responded firmly, stating tha...

According to the FCCPC, an extensive investigation revealed that Meta had committed multiple and repeated infringements, including: Denying Nigerians control over their personal data Unauthorized transfer and sharing of user data Discriminatory practices against Nigerian users Abusing market dominance by enforcing unfair privacy policies The Commission noted that Meta has faced similar regulatory actions worldwide, including a $1.5 billion fine in Texas and a $1.3...

A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to warn others about the risks of oral rental agreements, after receiving a quit notice just two months after spending ₦4 million to renovate a severely damaged apartment. In her emotional post, she wrote: > "I’m sharing my story to warn others about the dangers of oral agreements. I don’t even know where to start..." She explained that the apartment was in poor condition, and based on a verbal agreement with the landlord, she invested heavily in repairs—covering costs for plumbing, electricals, flooring, and painting. Despite her efforts and expenses, the landlord served her a quit notice without any compensation or formal explanation, highlighting the vulnerability tenants face when there’s no written contract. The story has sparked widespread reactions online, with many urging tenants to always insist on legally binding agreements to protect their rights.
